As a lifelong swimmer I seem to have the prerequisite that anywhere I live must provide regular access to a swimming pool.
When I moved to New Hampshire in 2009 a long lost college teammate encouraged me to check out Great Bay Masters, the local U.S. Masters Swimming (USMS) club, and I was once again hooked into the team aspect of swimming and racing.
Not too long after that I got talked into coaching Masters swim workouts and it fit like a glove. While my coaching schedule originally started with roughly 8-10 hours a week on deck, coaching workouts, it has scaled back as we have brought in additional coaching support this past year. This has allowed me to spend time on additional focus areas such as kicking off our first April is Adult Learn to Swim Month program in partnership with the Dover Indoor Pool and volunteering at the regional and national level to bring greater opportunities to Masters Coaches.
My theory on swimming is Smarter Not Harder and trying to work towards the mindfulness of knowing and determining exactly how your body is moving through the water.
Certifications:
- American Swim Coaches Association Level 2 Coach
- USMS Level 3 Coach
- USMS Adult Learn to Swim Instructor (ALTS)
I currently sit on the New England Local Masters Swimming Committee as the Coaches Chair, working to bring education and development opportunities to local masters coaches and swimmers.
I have been a member of the National Coaches Committee of USMS for the past three years supporting the biennial National Coaches Clinic, and trying to find ways to bring a younger voice to a very experienced crowd.
If you are one of those folks who'd like to see my racing history with USMS you can click here. I swim ALL the things, but my preference is for IM and Backstroke.
